What is 5-HTP?

5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP is a naturally-occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and an intermediate in tryptophan metabolism.  Although it may sound chemical, it occurs in nature and is made within the human brain from amino acids.  5-HTP in supplement form is sourced from the seeds of theGriffonia simplicifolia plant.
